RESPONDUS LOCKDOWN BROWSER – Student Instructions

Accessing the LockDown Browser Using OFTC Computers 

  1. Login to the OFTC computer. 

  1. Double click the Respondus LockDown Browser icon (see picture above for example) on the desktop.  (This icon appears on the student side only.)  The lockdown browser will automatically connect to Blackboard. 

  1. Key Blackboard username and password as usual. 

  1. Access course as usual. 

  1. Access exam from content area as usual. 

  1. Students can then take the exam as usual but with the Respondus LockDown Browser security enabled. 

  1. To resume operations using a standard browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.), students should click the X on the Respondus LockDown Browser tab. 

Accessing the LockDown Browser Using non-OFTC Computers 

Option 1 

Students not on campus who are taking an online exam using the Respondus LockDown Browser can still access the browser icon on the desktop if they log in to XenDesktop.  Follow these steps to access XenDesk: 

  1. Access the OFTC website. 

  1. Click MYOFTC at the top of the screen. 

  1. Click the XenDesktop button. 

  1. Key student\username.  Username will be the first part of your OFTC email address . . . anything before the @ symbol. 

  1. Key OFTC password for the password.  Unless you have changed it, your password will be your 6-digit birthday in the MMDDYY format. 

  1. Click the Detect Workspace button. 

  1. Click the Open Citrix Receiver Launcher. 

  1. Under Desktops, choose Windows 10. 

  1. Once the process completes and you see your Windows desktop, double click the Respondus icon. 

  1. You will be automatically directed to Blackboard where you can login and complete your exam as usual.

Option 2 

Students who do not log in to XenDesktop can install the Respondus LockDown Browser to their own computer by clicking this link and following the onscreen prompts: 

 

Note:  this link is unique to OFTC and should be used to access the lockdown browser install screen.

  1. On the install screen, click the Do you need the Mac version? link if you are using a Mac computer. 

  1. Click the Install Now button and follow the onscreen prompts. 

  1. Once installed, double-click the Lockdown browser icon on the desktop to begin the test in Blackboard.
